Into the Ice and Snow!

Yarrow had finally settled into her run down apartment, away from the loud and uncomfortable dorms where she had been surrounded by people. This was much better. Much quieter. Who needs people when you have cats anyways...?

There was the sign she needed to get out and go for a walk... without her cats... So, wit that in mind, she put on her coat, her shoes, and her scarf, then left with her school bag. Stella and Luna had food and water, so they'd be fine for a bit.

After a bit she came to rest on a bench, laying on her stomach with her math book open to do homework. It must have been an odd site, such a heavily dressed girl in the middle of Death City. It was just her style though... mainly because she was cold...

Hazel was leaning on a wooden scythe, staring at the girl in winter clothes. Seriously, at this time of the year she is wearing clothes like that? Isn't she going to have a sun stroke or something like that? Heat stroke....One of those two.

Oh, maybe she is like Hazel? A girl with ice magic? A witch, though? Alright, have to ask. Hazel just had to know why the fuck this girl was wearing clothes. So, Hazel grabbed her wooden swords, then walked over to the studying weapon, using the scythe as a walking stick.

Hazel: Hello there. Just wondering, um...Why are you wearing heavy clothes in a desert?

Yarrow froze up. A person? Talking to her? Why now? And why that? Whatever. She'd just get this over with quickly. "Why are YOU carrying wooden weapons? You shouldn't question strangers at random. It's rude." She replied, going back to her studying.

That should do it. This person would go away and everything would be fine. She could go back to her homework and forget this ever happened. At least, that was the plan. People don't always follow plans. Especially ones they don't know about.

Hazel was not having this. This girl was gonna act like this when she just asked a question? Well, time for a lesson. She stepped on the girl's back, giving her an un-amused look.

Hazel: Listen, I haven't had my coffee today, so I'll make this easy for you. I am carrying these weapons because I'm a meister. As a meister, I go and fight kishin eggs, and I train with these weapons. Okay, great. Now, why are you in heavy winter clothes?

Yarrow was not amused by this. Stepping on her was a bit harsh. Plus, it kinda hurt. Was there some point to this, or was she just being stubborn? Probably stubborn, meaning she needed a new tactic. When rude and insulting fails, spooky and threatening is the way to go.

With this in mind, Yarrow created a large scythe blade from her arm, arcing toward her elbow and pointed at Hazel's leg. "Move it or lose it. Literally." She said, hoping the girl would move the leg rather than call the bluff. What was the huge interest in her clothing choice?

Hazel: Oh, I get it now.

She stepped off of Yarrow, grabbing the scythe to examine it.

Hazel: Ice powers from your weapon form. That's pretty cool. And a power that isn't seen often. Anyway, name's Hazel Arlnest. Witch Meister. Pleasure too meet you, kid.

Really wasn't a pleasure, but it'd be better to lower the hostility between them.

Yarrow returned the blade as soon as Hazel touched it, giving her a good stare over. What kind of person wasn't afraid of being stabbed? Why was she so casual about it? Either way, she wasn't going anywhere. "It's not ice, it's just cold... And don't call me kid. My name is Yarrow." She replied, still hoping to drive her away.

Maybe if she made a few swings...? No... What if one really hit...? She didn't want to injure Hazel, even if she didn't want her here. In the end she was probably better off to just endure it than to start a fight. She wasn't in the mood to get kicked out of the school.

Hazel: Alright.

Cold? Cold powers. Like, give them the sniffles or what? No, that's dumb. Plus, it doesn't explain how it effects her body either. Wait, does it drop her temperature? That's stupid. Why would anyone want a power that drops their temp? There is no advantage to that.

It's not even like Hazel's either. It apparently doesn't allow her to be cool in warm climates....Actually, it does. Just not as controlled as Hazel's. Probably not the best idea for Yarrow to go to Canada either. Or anywhere else up north.

Hazel: Nice too meet you Yarrow....So, what does Yarrow mean?

Not a name you heard often. Okay, Hazel didn't care that much, but this girl doesn't seem to care that Hazel is a witch, so she seems pretty cool. And they didn't meet by Hazel getting a rock to the shoulder. So it's win win.

Yarrow sighed. What did Yarrow mean? That was a long winded response. It wasn't one she felt like giving, but something told her that Hazel wasn't going to take any answer she came up with unless she gave a meaning. So, she'd give the long winded version this time. She took a deep breath before speaking quickly.

"It's a nickname. It's short for Achillea Millifolium, my name and the scientific name a bitter herb that's know for it's healing properties in some cultures. It was my mom's favorite plant in her garden, so she named me after it. Yarrow is the accepted common name for the plant. Any more questions?" She asked, shooting Hazel an annoyed look.

Hazel: Naw. Though, you don't have to be like that. Look, I get it. You hate people, your anti-social. Blah blah blah. But, could you at least try to be a bit respectful? We are both students are the school, we have common interest and morals. Hopefully.

Yeah, that was great. Give that speech you anti-social witch. Although, Hazel does usually show outward respect for students, even is she hates most of them.

So Hazel could take a hint, she just chose to ignore them. Great... Yarrow wasn't getting out of this. She let out a small sigh and looked to Hazel. "Just don't step on me again." She said rather unenthusiastically as she moved into an upright possition to make room on the bench.

If Hazel was insistant on being friends, then Yarrow would play along until Hazel got bored. She was bad at conversations, so she didn't really see why Hazel would even want to be friends. Yarrow had been nothing but rude from the start. No matter what, it wouldn't last long.

Hazel: Doubt. I have better stuff. to do. Anyway, I'm off to train again.

Hazel took a small bow,then went back to train. She decided to continue with her scythe work, mainly cause she was still sore about her first weapon. So, Hazel was off. Having some fun with scythe training, going over old maneuvers, and trying to learn some new ones.

Yarrow kept an eye on Hazel. She hadn't gone very far, and she could see the witch from the bench. She used a scythe, with quite a bit of skill. An experienced fighter no doubt. Maybe Yarrow could learn something from a fight with her...? Yes. For sure. Yarrow could benefit at least a little from a quick spar.

She stood up and put her book in her bag, tying the bag to the bench and walking to where Hazel was. She looked down on the wooden swords, deciding that she shouldn't use her blades. They were a bit different, and had weight to them, but she could adjust. The range would be about the same, and the combat style would be similar.

Looking over at Hazel, Yarrow picked up two wooden blades. "Hey, you use a scythe, right? Spar me. I'll use these so I don't kill you or break your scythe." She called over, examining the blades and putting together a style. Yarrow was no doubt fast for a weapon, but she wanted to see what a real witch could do in a fight.

Hazel looked over at Yarrow, then nodded. Sparring match can be fun. It'll also be good for training, and she can see how good this girl is. She twirled the scythe a bit, then put it in a fighting position.

Hazel: Okay. Whenever you're ready, come at me.

Could be bad for Hazel, actually. She hasn't sparred with anyone since she left Ciaran and Gwyn. Let's see if her lack of sparring has effected how she fights.

Yarrow readied her makeshift blades, holding them back and towards the ground on either side of her body. An open stance, but an effective one with her wrist blades. These however, were not her wrist blades, meaning this was a hit or miss shot.

Yarrow rushed Hazel, making a quick swipe at her with the awkward wooden blade. This would no doubt be blocked or dodged, and Hazel's reaction would call her next move. There was no doubt in Yarrow's mind that these weapons were a handicap now.

Hazel watches as the girl charged her, being careful while studying her. She seemed kind of awkward, and definitely not used to blades like those. Should probably end this fast. She seems like the girl who will keep on fighting.

Hazel sidestepped Yarrow's attack, getting a good distance from Yarrow. With this, she swung the wooden scythe at her feet, trying to trip her. It was at the side, so Yarrow could dodge it if she was prepared. And given that she would be following Hazel's movements, she probably can.

Yarrow quickly recovered herself from the missed attack with enough time to jump towards and over the scythe, and imediatly upon landing made another atempt to get close. It seemed like Hazel knew her way around a scythe, and was focusing more on her meister capabilities. Was she actually a witch, or was that just a title?

Either way, Yarrow wouldn't lose to a meister. Especially one that was using her form, a scythe. As a scythe, she knew it left a lot to target in unskilled hands. However these weaknesses could be covered if you use it right. This meant that most of Yarrow's tactics would either work or be reversed like that one, and she had to be careful. If she got close enough she's make a quick swing with the sword, if not she'd keep pursuing and keep an eye on the wooden scythe.

Hazel watched Yarrow charge her, trying to think of tactic. She wanted to get up close and personal, but Hazel wanted to stay back. Come on, Agatha, it's simple. But, was it that simple? What will Hazel do to get her farther back.....Got it.

Hazel pointed a finger at Yarrow, muttering some words. The tip started to glow, and then a ball of ice shot out, hurtling straight toward Yarrow's chest. It could probably be dodged easily, but It'd give Hazel some time to start her own charge at Yarrow.

When the tip of Hazel's fingers started to glow, Yarrow took a quick stop. When the ball of ice came, she crossed her blades in front of her in an attempt to block it, then shove it away. Taking a moment to adjust to the stopped position and brace herself, Yarrow stayed put.

"Ice magic?" She questioned, knowing this would prevent her from running for now. It'd take a moment she didn't have to get back up to speed from standing, but it couldn't be helped. for now Yarrow would prepare for the next attack on her.

Hazel came to a stop, smiling a bit. Perfect idea.

Hazel: A bit more controlled then your cold powers, but yes, I am an ice witch. Specialty is ice make, or ice sculpting.

Hazel held out her right hand while muttering to herself. After a couple of seconds, ice started to sprout, forming an object. When it was finished, Hazel held up the boomerang, then threw it at Yarrow. She then sprang back into charging Yarrow, ready to swing at Yarrow. Even if Yarrow dodges the boomerang and blocks Hazel's attack, she should still get hit. However, if she get's out of the way for both, then the plan would have failed.

Yarrow quickly made a swing at the boomerang with one blade, trying to knock it from the sky or out of the way, then made an attempt to catch Hazel's scythe with the second blade. She would have countered with a quick backspin kick, had she not completely failed and dropped the second wooden sword, letting the mock-scythe slam into her side and knock her over instantly.

Yarrow wasn't sure what happened at this point. One minute she was up and fine, and now everything was blurry and she could see the sky. What's with the headache too? Did she win? No, Hazel had gotten a blow on her. Was she that weak? "Ugh... Lucky shot..." She mumbled, barley loud enough for Hazel to hear.

Yarrow had hit her head on a small rock when she fell. It was disorienting. Was this what it was like to get a concussion? Probably not. It still hurt, and caused her to not want to get up. She was breathing lightly, and not moving. God it hurt her head. Maybe she should just take a nap here...?

Hazel looked at Yarrow, rubbing the back of her head. Well, she did won. That was a plus side. However, she looked like she hit her head pretty hard. If she doesn't help, this girl will probably die. Wait, Hazel has no reason to leave her like this. Fuck...

Walking over to Yarrow, Hazel knelt down to examine the girl.

Hazel: Thanks.

Good thing she had bandages in her bag. Not sure if it will help much, but  it'd probably do something.

Yarrow wasn't going to argue. Mainly because she was just now starting to become reoriented. She sat up and let Hazel bandage the wound, then gave her a slightly uncomfortable stare. "You didn't have to help, y'know... I can handle myself..." Yarrow stated, knowing this was a lie. The hit wasn't fatal either way, but why take a chance at passing out?

Passing out with a concussion could have really bad results. She didn't know if it was actually a concussion or not, but for now she'd stick to Hazel in case she got tired. She could try to talk to Hazel to stay awake... Even if she hated talking to people.

Hazel: Yeah yeah.

She ignored the uncomfortable look from Yarrow, finishing up with the bandages. The looked pretty good, and would stay on for a bit. Hazel then got up, holding up Yarrow with her. She did feel pretty bad for what happened, as Hazel was the one who bitch slapped Yarrow with a wooden scythe. So, time for some redemption.

Hazel: Alright, how about we go and get something to drink. I know a great place to get us some.

"Fine, let me grab my stuff." Yarrow replied, slowly walking over and gathering her stuff into her bag before swinging it lightly onto her shoulder. It was weird... She had been pretty rude to Hazel, but Hazel still took the time to bandage her. Maybe she just felt bad for knocking her off balance or something...

Either way, rhe fact still stood that Yarrow needed someone to keep an eye on her, unknowingly or not. Hazel was here, and didn't seem like she was going anywhere soon. As much as Yarrow detested social interaction, she'd have to deal with it. What if it got awkward and she failed at conversation though...? Oh well...

Hazel watched Yarrow grab her stuff, then started to stretch. Man, she was getting pretty tired now. Stupid owl half. Hard time sleeping at night, and always with the urge to sleep in the day. Not really good when it comes to classes. Plus, no teacher is gonna want to stay awake through the night with a witch. So, gonna have to adapt to them.

Anyway, that didn't matter right now. She was gonna get coffee soon. So, she put Yarrow's arm over her shoulder, then helped Yarrow reach their destination. Kind of weird, Hazel didn't actually get this close physically to anyone for a while. Well, besides Millie. Last time she did, it was with Alexia.....

Hazel looked away from Yarrow as she grew bright red. Nuh uh, will not blush like this in front of another student, even with all of the snuggling and embarrassing stuff that happened between them....Wait, already blushing...God, damn it....

Yarrow wasn't fond of the idea that she needed help walking. Sure she was a bit off balance, but did they have to take it that far...? She had noticed Hazel blushing almost as soon as it happened, and almost immediatly looked away. Why is she blushing...? Did I accidently touch her wrong...?

After thinking for a moment it struck her that Hazel may not see people the same as her... Maybe physical contact freaked her out...? Or maybe she just saw girls as more than just potential friends and enemies...? Either way, Hazel seemed uncomfortable, and there was nothing she could do about it.

After a bit more walking, Hazel brought them to a small cafe. It seemed nice and cozy, with a couple of customers there. The floor tiles and walls were a nice periwinkle. The tables, chairs, and menu board were a pine green, with the text on the menu being a bright red.

Speaking of the menu, there was a lot of stuff on the menu. With a lot being stuff that really shouldn't be on a menu, but is. Probably Hazel's second favorite....No, third favorite. Favorite was definitely the coffee. Oh man, this stuff was so good!

Upon entering, Hazel smirked, walking up to the counter.

Hazel: Espresso please. And anything she wants.

Yarrow tried her best to stand on her own now, clearing her throat before ordering. "Just a hot chocolate, thanks." She said, the words coming out sounding polite, but robot like. As though she had rehearsed them a thousand times before. Not that she had... 'Cause that'd be weird... Yep...

After that, she sat at the nearest open table and tried her best to just look not awkward. She was doing a pretty good job of it too. Maybe shhe could have a normal rest of the day at this rate? Maybe... Or maybe meeting Hazel ruined every chance of that. Who knows?

Hazel nodded, getting their drinks. She never actually had hot chocolate before, so that's a thing. Yeah, she just spent most of her time drinking coffee as her beverage, and maybe some water here and there....Wonder what hot chocolate taste like? Maybe it'll be good.....Hopefully.....Yeah, probably not...Eh, can get it later.

For now, Hazel just brought them their drinks. Setting down Yarrow's hot chocolate, Hazel sat down, bringing her feet onto the table and leaned back. Who cares about just drinking coffee, it's good coffee, and worth it. And as a cheers to this thought, Hazel took a small sip of coffee, enjoying it.
